Using the Computer To Create Artwork, with Richard Zakin
5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuesdays, September 14 and 21
The Oswego Public Library computer lab features computers with Photoshop Elements 8 installed but all versions of Photoshop will be discussed. An introduction to the ways that artists are creating artwork using this new and very promising medium will be the class focus. Also featured is an intoduction to the drawing tablet. Onlookers are encouraged. Co-sponsored by the Oswego Public Library and the Oswego Art Association. At the Oswego Public Library, 120 E. Second St. Class size is limited: registration required. |

History comes alive on Saturday, September 11 as we unveil an Underground Railroad interpretive sign at 11:30 a.m. on the west side of the Oswego Public Library near East 1st Street/481. Then join us at Bridie Manor for lunch, a performance, and a talk at 331 West 1st Street/48. Tickets for the luncheon and raffle are $30; tickets for the raffle alone are $10.
A Celebration of the Underground Railroad
History will come alive with a performance by Vanessa Johnson, a Griot/African storyteller, who will relate the experience of people who escaped slavery and those who assisted and supported their cause. The performance will be prefaced by Dr. Judith Wellman's presentation on Oswego County's first black residents and the risks area abolitionists took for the sake of freeing people from slavery.

Employment Applications can be found at the City of Oswego website. The Oswego Public Library is seeking additional applicants for two 20-hr/wk Technology Instructor positions in the Public Computer Center created by the Broadbandexpress@yourlibrary grant. Please send cover letter, resume, references, and application for full time employment from the site above. The applicant pool will be closed at 4:30 p.m. on September 10th.

The New York State Library, a unit of the Office of Cultural Education within the New York State Education Department (NYSED), has been awarded $9.5 million in a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to expand computer access in public libraries across New York State. The funding is being provided through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). |
